Research & Development - Current projects
Taxonomy of Aspergillus flavus complex
The phylogeny of clinical Aspergillus isolates belonging to the section flavi was studied by sequencing three genes sequences; O –methyltransferase, beta-tubulin, and the ITS Region and by comparing morphology and susceptibility profiles with known reference strains. (more details)
Validation of the Innogenetics MBL genotyping kit
This project aimed to compare MBL genotype to levels of MBL as measured in the serum, in patients suffering from chronic pulmonary aspergillosis (CPA) or allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA). This will determine any link between functional and non-functional genotypes, and serum levels. (more details)
Understanding resistance mechanisms in azole resistant Aspergillus fumigatus
This study designed to investigate the frequency of azole resistance in Aspergillus fumigatus in the RMLM culture collection. Resistant isolates were studied to determine their susceptibility profiles (cross-resistance pattern), the mechanism of resistance, and their genetic relatedness by molecular typing. (more details)
Taxonomy of Aspergillus niger complex
The taxonomy of black sporing Aspergilli in the RMLM culture collection was studied by sequencing of 3 molecular targets; ITS region, and partial calmodulin and beta-tubulin genes. (more details)
Relationship of itraconazole levels to toxicity (audit)
This project was set to audit the relationship between itraconazole (ITZ) concentrations and the probability of toxicity. The relationship between mean ITZ concentrations and the probability of an adverse event was defined using logistic regression. (more details)

The nature of individual isolates in aspergillomas
This project aimed to analyse surgically-resected aspergillomas in several ways, including the differences between and evolution of the isolates obtained, their antifungal susceptibility patterns, gene expression and rearrangement profiles and mycotoxin production. (more details)
